Karra Detrick
Art Enthusiast and Certified Instructor
Welcome to 'Art on a Carte; A Traveling Studio where Art, Food and Friendships Gather!' My name is Karra and I am a New York State and Pennsylvania certified Art teacher, I hold a Master's degree in Art and Education, and I have over 10 years of teaching experience. I am an art enthusiast, a lover of food, and a friend. My goal is to bring art into your life under the banner of good food and fun, while providing you with the tools and knowledge to pursue art on your own once you leave one of our events.
Any and all abilities are welcome, and no experience is necessary! Each lesson includes a color theory component, an art history component, and a painting component where everyone will complete their own painted canvas based on a major work of art.
I collaborate with restaurants, breweries and wineries, but I am also available to teach group lessons for showers, holiday parties, birthdays, play groups, veteran and elderly facilities, girl scout/boy scout groups etc.
'Art on a Carte,' is based on the notion of the traveling teacher, so let me come to you! I provide all art supplies, supplemental materials, set up and clean up.
Contact me today to book your gathering!
Let's paint!

Testimonials

"I spent a week in Florida at an artist retreat, and got more from four hours in your class than that entire week." - V.K. (2014)

"I love your class because you learn so much more than other sip and paints! It is more like a class than just a night out. I loved learning how to mix my colors and about van Gogh's life and art!" - A.K. (2015)

"Thank you Karra! You are a wonderful teacher! I felt so comfortable and learned so much!" - M.A. (2016)

"I didn't think I would ever be able to paint this painting! I would have given you a $100 to bet that I wouldn't be able to do it! I am so surprised that I did it! I am so impressed! You made it so easy!" S.K. (2016)

"I studied for a semester in Vienna 15 years ago. After last night I had a vivid and colorful dream that I went back and it was so wonderful. I was saying, "I am so happy I'm here!" I always dream in color, but this was vibrant! I must go back soon; I haven't been since I left." S.W. (texted to me the morning after a Gustav Klimt (Vienna, Austria) event. (2016)

"This was so much more than I imagined! Thank you so much! It was so relaxing and I did so much better than I thought I could. I will definitely return. Do you travel out of state?!" C.W. (ps. Yes, I do!:)

"I have been to other sip and paints and this is so much different. I love the food and you learn so much!" - P.T.

1. Q: I am not good at painting. Can I still come? A: Absolutely! Seriously, no experience necessary. We gather under the banner of fun, and each lesson is adapted to fit any and all abilities.

2. Q. Can I bring my daughter/son? A. Everyone 9-99 years young are welcome depending on the venue. Some restaurants or bars may not allow people under 21 after certain hours. Also, it is required that anyone under the age of 18 is accompanied by an adult.

3. Q. What kind of paint do we use? A. For our standard events we will use acrylic paint

4. Q. Do I need to bring my own supplies? A. No. All supplies will be included. Just come ready to paint! If you have a special set of paints and/or brushes you wish to bring, you are welcome to bring them, but it is not required.

5. Q. What do I wear? A. Wear comfortable clothes. Acrylic paints stain, and aprons will be provided, however accidents happen...especially after a glass or two of wine!

6. Q. I didn't finish! What now!? A. All of the supplies we use can be purchased at any local craft/art supply store (ex. Michael's, AC Moore, Blick Art Supply), and I am available for assistance.
